Airline pilot and seaplane owner John Russell led the organisation of a celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Britain’s famous air speed victory over the Solent in 1931 which won the Schneider Trophy outright for Great Britain.

Several UK and European floatplane and amphibious aircraft were planned to participate in the celebration, hosted by Lee Flying Association at Hangar "B" 12th-15th September 2011.

CELEBRATION PROGRAMME

MONDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2011

WEDNESDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 2011  (Subject to revision by Euro Seaplane Services)

 

The amphibian aircraft (1 or 2) will depart Lee at 1100 local for Ryde, arriving there at 1120. The aircraft will stay there for around 15 minutes before departing to carry out the Flypasts, commencing from Lee-on-Solent airfield at 1200. After the three circuits are completed the aircraft will return to the Ryde area to make water landings abeam the Pier, flying from east to west.

After the water landings and take-offs are complete the aircraft will proceed to the Calshot area to land south of Calshot around 1320. The aircraft will then taxy on the water to round the Calshot Spit and run up the fllying boat ramp near the Activities Centre. The aircraft will stay at Calshot for some photo opportunities and interviews before departing around 1500 to taxy south to take-off and return to Lee airfield.

All water landings are subject to suitable wind and sea conditions.
