IFA2 Approved by Fareham Planning Committee |
Fareham Borough Council's Planning Committee approved National Grid's application to build IFA2 (Interconnexion France Angleterre 2) at Daedalus on 23 January 2017. The meeting was held at Ferneham Hall, Fareham. There were 1,134 letters objecting and 10 in favour and 15 deputations spoke against the proposal.

IFA Damaged during storm Angus |
The Interconnexion France-Angleterre was damaged on Sunday Nov 20th 2016. Four out of its eight cables were cut, reducing its capacity by 1 Gigawatt. IFA2, currently under planning to come ashore at Daedalus is designed to provide additional capaciy. The interconnectors allow the UK to buy electricity from France, which has a large nuclear generating capacity. To read the report from the Daily Telegraph click here.
118 ft Superyacht moved from Daedalus |
At the end of October the first Oyster 118 superyacht hull was moved from Daedalus to the Oyster shipyard in Southampton. The hull was trailered through the base and down to the slipway where it was craned on to a barge for transport to Southampton. The slipway makes Daedalus an ideal base for marine construction. An update from National Grid on the proposed electricity interconnector IFA2 at Daedalus. IFA2 is a proposed high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical interconnector linking the British and French transmission systems that will be capable of exporting or importing 1000MW of power between the two countries. It will be the second link to France following the commissioning of IFA in 1986. The project is being jointly developed by National Grid and Reseau de Transport d’Electricite (RTE), the French network owner and operator.

Fareham Borough Council Publishes information on IFA2. May 2016 |
Fareham Borough Council has published information about the proposed IFA2 (Interconnexion France-Angleterre 2) which will link the French and English electricity grids. The proposal involves bringing sub-sea cables ashore at Lee on Solent to a converter station at the north-east of the Daedalus site. The cables will run to France to link with the French grid and to the sub-station at Chilling, near Warsash to link to the UK grid. To visit the Fareham Council Web Page click here.

Airfield Under New Management
As of 1st April 2011 Britten-Norman have become responsible for the management of Daedalus Airfield under a two-year 'interim' agreement. The airfield manager is Mr Peter Dalby, who managed Bembridge aerodrome 2002-2010.

To use the runway after 12 March 2010 you MUST have a user license.
Airfield users will be aware that for some time they have not had to pay to use the runway. That is now changing and from 12 March a license will be required. Please don't leave this until the last minute, get your application in in time. For full details click here.
